icu to do’s

Show up early
Look up your patients before receiving report. This will help you feel settled in starting your day. You won’t regret it!
Positive mindset
ICU orientation is HARD because we want you to fly on your own when it’s time. Focus on confidence and positive self-talk during these times
Take Notes
Write down items you’d like to review. Things can’t always be explained in the moment so use your report sheet to jot down notes.
EXPECTATIONS
You will have to study at home. You will not learn everything on orientation. Use your notes with unfamiliar items and study those at home.
Cluster Care
Cluster your patient care as best you can. This will help your time management skills.
Confidence with Humility
Have confidence in what you do but always have humility. You do not and will not know everything. If you think you do, it's time for a career change.
Ask For Help
Always ask for help or clarification when you’re unsure about something. We’re here to help!

Here are some quick tips on getting started in the ICU. The two most important things I can iterate is to show up early and look up patients and to go home and study. I know you just finished school, but if you want to succeed those two things are a must in my opinion.
